Hello!
If you’re reading this, it means that I made it to week four of my Index Space class, The Launch and that I hit the publish button as part of a lecture. Yay.
The purpose of The Launch (which I wrote about here) was to launch a low-stakes, high-joy project, and “releasing weekly holiday rom-com haiku reviews” is mine. I chose this because:
Usually, when I write about movies or TV, I don’t get to enjoy the watching experience because I’m constantly pausing to take a note or screenshot. And I absolutely can’t do it leisurely with others. With these, I can!
I am scared of poetry, but seventeen syllables go down easy. It’s like exposure therapy. No erasing, no editing, no perfection. First thought, right thought, done.
My main project was “the class in its entirety,” and I needed an easy-for-me-to-execute decoy. 😈
That’s basically it. You can expect a dispatch of these each week through December. If you’ve got a favorite holiday rom-com that is currently streaming, please drop it in the comments or respond directly to this email.
Here comes the disclaimer that Substack would not let me cutely show the poster art next to the haiku as the artist intended (I am the artist), so we’re all just gonna have to deal with this alt approach. I refuse to make any more assets for this fun & festive idiocy. <3
